Some Chinese netizens said: When I first started learning English at the age of 12, my teacher asked us to write a letter to Lucy and Tom, junior high school students on the other side of the ocean, to introduce them to our country. I'm 40 years old this year and I've finally received a reply.
US Government: We banned Tiktok to protect our citizens data.
US Tiktok user moving to RedNote: Yo wazzup China, My name is Deshawn ask me anything you wanna know about my country, i'll tell you everything.
i love that ordinary American and Chinese people are just interacting directly with each other on this app
If you told someone back in 2020 that tiktok got banned and thousands of people from the US are now learning Chinese (technically hardest language for foreigners as it is a syllabic and also pretty complicated if not using the new system) just to be able to use an even more Chinese version of tiktok and everyone would call you a madman.
Let's be honest. The reason they're banning TikTok is because it was outcompeting Facebook and Insta. There's no politics here. It's all about the money.
Show how american were shocked how cheap the goods are in china, how modern the cities, how advanced, convenient and fast everything is, how free it is but not for paid liars and troublemakers. It will be fascinating to see how they impress each other with their own creativity.
The fact that Americans refused to go on Instagram shows how far meta has fallen; Meta apps are now only popular in third-world countries.
It should be called Red Pill because Americans are discovering that they have been living in the Matrix all their lives.
Americans: please take my data. Take my government too.
American goverment thought we go to Meta , IG but overnight we where gone , the Chinese wake up and saw english comments, they were so happy, and so are we
I never cared for TikTok, but I started checking out Red Note and it’s been fun! I like talking to actual citizens of other nations and having pleasant interactions
You know what’s funny? That American citizens finding out China isn’t as bad as their US government loves to portray them to be lol
Hopefully there will be real cross cultural exchange without government interference
White House: We protect young Americans.
Young Americans: Take my data China.
Coming from a country that advocates democracy and takes pride in their freedom, this is really a joke

Lots of people are learning Mandarin from Duolingo now.
I have never used tiktok ever, but i think banning it is wrong, it backfired horribly
Gen Z here, can confirm I got a RedNote account out of spite for the TikTok ban. I like it a lot so far and plan to find a language app to help me learn Chinese.
Even though tiktok is banned in my india we indians use vpn to access tiktok. xiaomi is number one smartphone brand here. we love Chinese products.
Despite all the negative sides of this situation from the tiktok ban because the US was so fragile to something they don't know about (despite tiktok being literally anywhere BUT China) to the fact that tiktok users are using red note to spite the government (all to them), I find it really heart warming US Americans and Chinese are having cultural exchanges and teaching each other about the other side. The circumstances aren't perfect, but I like these interactions.
Tik Tok server in Singapore. RedNote server in China. Out of the pan into the fire....LOL

If China opened up Bilibili to international users we would leave YouTube, and whatever their version of Twitter is, Americans would migrate over in a heartbeat.

If you go to China and ask for a printed business card, they will deliver it to your office in 2 hours, fully printed as much as you want. Imagine if they see millions of american customers flocking in, they won't let this opportunity pass. It's an opportunity of a lifetime
as a Pakistani, I see a huge opportunity. Pakistani people love China and we know English very well. Many even know American and UK culture. China, our Iron Brother, can employ some Pakistani developers to help these American refugees.
The American government wants TikTok for two reasons:
1) American ownership by a GOP supporter; This way the GOP can influence future young voters to vote for them;
2) A GOP friendly billionaire rake in profit for themselves, not the current Singaporean CEO and its shareholders.
Therefore, this is merely a greedy wealth transfer.
Nothing else.
1)由一位共和黨支持者掌控所有權(quán);這樣共和黨就能影響未來的年輕選民為他們投票;
Americans discovering that China is ahead in infrastructure, home ownership, health care, safety and people are actually living a happy life out of their country
People don’t want to be divided.

As a american Chinese person who has had 小紅書 for a while now i find this absolutely hilarious
"So real Chinese people speak with real American people directly." - Hopefully this goes well.
Older user here, and I'm loving it! I've seen so many videos teaching all the new American users how to speak Mandarin, among other amazing content. This is a great antidote to Cold War 2.0 hysteria.
You don't have to view the full 11mins of this video report. Here is the summary: Chinese Govt. censors contents while US Govt. censors Apps.

Only the people could stop the government goes to war.
Even if the US does decide to go after Rednote too what I can honestly see happening is people will just keep migrating from one Chinese app to another in protest and in the end they will just get fed up of constantly having to go through the legal system taking apps down.
In fact, in China, even without using health insurance, antibiotics (12 tablets for a 6-day supply) cost about 3 USD, painkillers (24 tablets for a 12-day supply) around 5 USD, insulin is about 4-5 USD per vial, and a home first aid kit (including alcohol, sterile gloves, masks, saline solution, bandages, gauze, band-aids, cotton swabs, scissors, whistles, etc.) costs around 8-10 USD.
I trust China far more than I do Meta and xitter lol
Tiktokers calling themselves "refugees" is insane
US call China the com...st China while China call US meiguo 美國 beautiful country. How irony is it?
I have a feeling a lot of people are going to ruin this for everyone.
Gen Z is the most adaptable generation ever
They will try to ban this app next
this is one of the best examples of irony I have ever seen that isn’t a joke

Glad to see finally people talk to each other.
?I’m glad that ordinary people can now get to know each others’ culture without the politically motivated western media bias
I'm Chinese american. To be honest, Chinese government takes care of their citizens much much better than US government.

Who would have thought a simple app would destroy Murica's $1.6B pro paganda bill? Masterstroke!
We have a government that can't put out fires or prevent them. Very, very high taxes but a privatized, commercialized health care system.
I just hope that the rumours about RedNote developers splitting the servers between Mainland China and foreigners isn't real or doesn't come to fruition, because I'm really enjoying to see the daily life of Chinese people and bits of their culture! Their outlook in life and thus how they create their videos is so different from ours that it's a joy to watch what they share over there!
Rednote just gained free commercials...

I'm an Aussie and a lady I follow on TikTok is in the USA and I saw her new post that she has created a Red Note account. It was the first time I had heard of Red Note. I think it is really great that people are talking to each other and learning things about each other's culture straight from the citizens.

As long as they don’t take their tiktok culture over to rednote it’s ok.

RedNote is definitely more women-friendly than many other social media apps. A lot less toxic masculinity. If you're a female Tiktok user or content creator, RedNote is an excellent place to migrate too. The girls and guys on that app are friendly, funny and creative. It's one of the better Chinese social apps in my opinion.

In Chinese its called xiao hong shu, which translates to little red book. I'm not sure why people are calling it Rednote
This is scary, so weird, different, and uncertain.

Pretty soon, Rednote will get a US version. There is no upside for the Chinese Government to have their app open for direct interaction between the US and the Chinese. It's contradicting the reason to why their internet is sensored.
Chinese here. This incident makes me feel that most of us spend ten years and a lot of money learning English, only to end up chatting with Americans on xiaohongshu about what they had for lunch.
Friendly reminder: In order to understand 80% of the videos and jokes on RedNote, you have to watch the Chinese period drama "Empresses in the Palace". You just have to. Don't ask why. It's available on youtube with english subtitles. You're welcome.
I emigrated from China almost 15 years ago and have since been detached from the daily life there. I've only heard of the app Rednote last year when someone from China asked if I used it. At first I thought they were talking about that little red book from the M Zedong cultural revolution era literally. Like holy fk why would I be reading that propaganda piece in the modern era? Then I learnt it's just a new Chinese social media app and I finally realized how far removed I was from the culture that I grew up in, for better or worse.
